If you’re planning a trip to Brunei and struggling to find a budget-friendly yet decent hotel accommodation, I hope this helps. From my search, many hotels were either overpriced or poorly reviewed, so finding a good option wasn’t easy.
Why I Chose It
When picking accommodation, I always prioritize proximity to major tourist spots and transport hubs. Qing Yun Resthouse, located in Jalan McArthur Road in Bandar Seri Begawan, seems a perfect match. It has a 7.7 rating on Booking.com and an 8.6 on Agoda, with location being its strongest asset.
I booked through Booking.com and communicated with the hotel via the app. The staff were extremely helpful—they even assisted me in arranging transport to the hotel since I couldn’t install the local DART app (similar to Grab).
Location
The resthouse is about 11 km from Brunei International Airport and within walking distance of key attractions such as:
- The Waterfront
- Yayasan Shopping Complex
- The Brunei Wall & The Frame
- Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque
- Kianggeh Market
It’s also just 60 meters from the bus station, with plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, and currency exchange outlets. Despite being in the city center, the area feels calm—no constant honking, safe pedestrian crossings, and a generally laidback vibe compared to the Philippines.
My Stay
I stayed in a twin room with a private bathroom for 2 nights and 3 days.
- The bed was cozy, air-conditioning worked well, and water supply was reliable.
- Complimentary items included a 1-liter water bottle, toilet paper, and pleasantly scented body wash.
- The room is suitable for two, so the cost is more economical if you’re not traveling solo.
Review Summary

- Value: 7.5/10 – I paid Php 3,641 (S$76) for November 2025. Fair compared to alternatives.
- Cleanliness: 6.5/10 – Room was tidy but had a faint damp smell, and I spotted two small cockroaches.

Qing Yun Resthouse is a great choice for budget travelers who want to stay close to Bandar Seri Begawan’s highlights. While not perfect, its location and staff support make it highly recommendable.
